Overview

lithuanian flagOfficially the Republic of Lithuania, Lithuania is the southernmost Baltic state in Northern Europe. Located at the southeast shore of the Baltic Sea, Lithuania is bordered by Latvia, Belarus, Poland and Kaliningrad. To its west, across the sea lie Sweden and Denmark. Lithuania’s capital is Vilnius, and its population is 3.28 million.

Before the most recent financial crisis, Lithuania had one of the fastest developing economies in the European Union. It is a member of NATO, the Council of Europe, and the European Union. In 2009, Lithuania became a full member of the Schengen Agreement.
