Greece

Greece FlagGreece is located in southeastern Europe. Also known as Hellas, Greece shares its northern borders with Albania, the Republic of Macedonia and Bulgaria. Located at the southern end of the Balkan Peninsula, Greece is bordered by Turkey and the Aegean Sea to the east, the Ionian Sea to the west, and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. Greeceā€™s coastline is the tenth longest in the world, and consists of at least 1,400 islands.

Ancient Greece is generally regarded as the birthplace of Western civilization. Democracy, Western philosophy, the Olympic Games, Western literature, political science, major scientific and mathematical theories and drama all originated there.

Greece is a member of the European Union, Eurozone, NATO and the European Space Agency. It is a developed country with an advanced economy, high rankings of life quality and has the 22nd highest Human Development Index in the world today.
